Obituary
Mr. Claude E. Watkins, 88, of Durham, NC departed this earthly
life on Monday, July 1, 2019.
Claude, a Raleigh native, retired from the US Army
as a
Master Sergeant after a twenty-seven year career. During his career, he received
assignments that carried him around the world and worked with several
generals. Significantly, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, earning the
prestigious Bronze Star, for his valor in the latter war. Upon retiring

established a successful real estate career. Health issues gradually caused the
loss of his ability to live independently and prompted his admission to the
Durham Veterans Administration Hospital.
There will be a viewing and family visitation at 10:00 AM on Friday July 5, 2019
followed by a Celebration of His Life at 11:00 AM in the C A Haywood, Sr.
Memorial Chapel, 2415 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC. The final resting
place will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Road, Garner, NC,

The VA Medical Center (VAMC) at CLC Hospice in, Durham, NC let us use their Rec Hall to play checkers. Claude was a checker playing friend of Willie Tart and we would drive down and play in Durham. Both were veterans and Willie would visit for medical medication/treatments and checkups so this was a good time to get in some play.
